Welcome to The Smoker
The best ideas don’t happen at a desk. They happen when you’re busy living life.
If you sit down and force yourself to “be creative,” you usually end up staring at a blinking cursor. But when you step away—when you’re driving, showering, or tending to a fire—your brain goes off-road. That is where the glitches happen. That is where the magic is.
I call this section “The Smoker” because that is exactly where my theory on Highlander and 2001: A Space Odyssey was born: while I was wrestling a hot Pork Butt out of the smoker .
I wasn’t trying to fix a 40-year-old plot hole in a sci-fi franchise. I was just trying to keep the meat from drying out. But in that moment of distraction, two completely unrelated wires in my head crossed, and a new “Canon” was created.
That is what you will find here.
These aren’t polished dissertations. They are “Minimum Viable Premises.” They are half-baked, slow-cooked, oddball concepts that hit me when I was doing something 100% unrelated to creativity. Some might be fully fleshed out; others might just be a flavor I’m trying to capture before it fades.
So, welcome to The Smoker. It’s messy, it takes time, and the results are usually pretty interesting.
